Heart on My Sleeve – Schools

There is an entire community of people in Flint that have been overlooked, over 20,000 of them. They are all colors and all ages, from all walks of life. But they have one thing in common: they are families caught in a system that is overwhelmed and under supported, the Foster Care System. Foster Hope is revolutionizing the foster care system by providing support to foster children, birth parents, foster parents, and the system itself, through programs, mentoring, life skill training and community partnerships.
We would like to invite your school to participate in our fourth semi-annual, “Heart on My Sleeve” campaign in the month of May, Foster Care Awareness month. To “Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve” is said to have derived from the middle ages when Knights would wear a ribbon pinned to their sleeve as a sign of the one they were fighting for. During this campaign, we will wear a Foster Hope heart on our sleeve as a symbol of our commitment to care and fight for children in the foster system.
Please encourage your school to participate in the Foster Hope Heart on My Sleeve Campaign by hosting a pajama day any Friday in May – National Foster Care Awareness Month. On your PJ day, teachers and students can donate $1 or more to receive a Foster Hope sticker to wear on their sleeve as a pass to wear pajamas and as a symbol of support for the needs of children in foster care. All proceeds will fund programs to help educate, mentor and provide resources for Genesee County foster children and their families.
